For this challenge you should....
** Pick 12 books - one for each month of 2008 - that you've been wanting to read (that have been on your "To Be Read" list) for 6 months or longer, but haven't gotten around to.
** OPTIONAL: Create a list of 12 "Alternates" (books you could substitute for your challenge books, given that a particular one doesn't grab you at the time)
** Then, starting January 1, 2008, read one of these books from your list each month, ending December 31, 2008. :o)
(for more information, please read the challenge FAQs)
By the end of the year you should've knocked 12 books off of your TBR list! (of course, if you're anything like me, you'll have added *at LEAST* 12 more to the ever-growing pile by then! LOL).
The good news is, though, that you'll be making some progress! ;o)
Are you up for the challenge?
You have 2 options:
- Sign your name to the MR. LINKY below, and make sure it links to the blog post that shows your list of 12 books (with, or without, 'alternates')
- Sign your name on the MR. LINKY below, without a link if you do not have a blog
EDITED TO ADD (Jan.24/08): The old Mr. Linky wasn't working any more (it was full?), so please sign the one below, if you haven't signed up for the challenge yet!
Thanks! And, happy reading!! =)

Looking forward to this reading challenge. I haven't ever planned pleasure reading for a whole year...should be a lot of fun!
As much of a planner as I am, I have never planned an entire year's reading schedule. This is fun! Just be patient with my blog please. I am new at this and very technologically challenged.
Is there still a 15 book alternate limit?
Laura & Karen -- you may not think it's so "fun" after you've fallen behind by several months! LOL. :-P
Becky -- sorry that you'll no longer be participating. I'm not sure how to delete links, but I'll make note of your 'status', and I'll see what I can do about the link, anyway...
3M -- I don't know if there's still a limit on Alternates... I'm waiting to get a (yahoo) group concensus (sp?) on that... will post it to the Blog post when I know for sure! ;o)
Yeah! Its here! I think I will really enjoy this challenge. I primarily read short stories & essays, but have resolved this next year to spend more time with a book which requires a longer...dare I say...commitment. There. I've done it. I've said the "C" word. No turning back now.....Mwa ha ha.
Happy reading everyone!
I'm looking forward to reading some of the books on my shelves that keep calling to me!
Very happy that your doing the challenge again. Happy reading.
Barbara
I have been waiting for this challenge for weeks! I will start working on my list.
Rachel D.
This is great! Some of the books on my list have been there for years. Looking forward to it!
I don't have a blog post link, but they are listed on the sidebar of my blog.
Thanks for offering this! I have enjoyed the 2007 challenge and hope to finish the last books soon!
I'm joining you Jen!
I'm in! I think I strive for 60 books this years. :-)
I'm determined to get rid of some of my TBR pile! So I'm in.
I've finally settled on my list and signed up with Mr. Linky. Thanks for hosting this challege (I want to start reading my TBR books NOW ;>)).
Consider me added with my list up on my blog and in the side bar too. Looking forward to it :)
This is my first challenge. I don't have a blog (but thinking about starting one) -I usually write my reviews in a journal. Where do I post what my list will be?
Becky -- I got some help, so I deleted your link from the Mr.Linky as requested. ;o)
Melissa -- Very cool that you're joining me/us! Welcome aboard! :D
Aileen -- Feel free to join the TBR Challenge (Yahoo) Group, if you don't have a blog. If you'd rather not do that, that's okay, too -- I guess you could just do the challenge, and we'll trust you to complete it as you say... there aren't any prizes for 2008, so I don't really *need* to see your list.
Everyone Else -- so glad to have you all joining us!!! :D
Finally posted my lists. I'm looking forward to doing this challenge!
I have joined the TBR Challenge YahooGroup. Do I post the list there?

Hey! I accidentally hit enter on #68 before I fully logged in. Can you delete that one?
Thanks!
Tammy in TN
Finally a way to remove that ever growing stack (shelves) of books I have been trying to slim down for years.
Stormy
Aileen -- Yes, you can post your list at the TBR Yahoo! group. In the FILES section there, you'll find a Folder called "2008 MEMBER Book Lists". Once you've gotten into that folder, click "Create a Text File", type your list, and save it! Voila! ;o)
Tami -- I'll delete your unneeded link soon! ;o)
I accidentally signed up twice. Oops - I think I'm numbers 80 and 81.
I think 2008 will be a much better year for me for the tbr challenge - I can't wait!
Looking forward to this. Hope it keeps me on track since I'm easily distracted!
Hi, I'm new to this challenge! I've posted my list. I hope to reduce my TBR list in the coming year!
I'm going to try this one for '08 ... thank you for hosting. :)
My blog: Punkin' Press
I need this challenge desperately! There are way too many books in my TBR stacks!
OK - I'm official
link to my list is here
I'm more excited about putting this list together than about Xmas! For 2007 I've finished 6 and am likely to finish a 7th. The other 5 plus three alternates carry over to 2008, either as main selections or as alternates. My 2007 experience has been a very positive one of reading a number of books I had delayed reading. I can't wait 'til it's 2008.
This will definitely be a helpful challenge. = ) I'll work on my list/s over the holiday week. My buddy SuziQ is very excited, so this one must be a humdinger.
I'm here again! I loved this last year and look forward to another year of reading those books that have been so patiently waiting their turn.
This should be a lot of fun. I'm in the process of putting my lists together. Thanks.
woohoo! have my list up now and am working on my alternates too.
It was harder to choose my TBR books and alternates this year. I don't know if that's because I have more books to read or if it's because I know I probably won't make it through more than 12. If only I could read all 24 this year...
I already posted my blog to the list, but this is the link to my actual list of books for the challenge. I'm so excited! I can't wait to get started.

This is RhiGirl. I'm excited about this year's challenge - if only because this is the first time I've gotten involved. =) Thanks, mizb!
I have almost forgotten to put in the link in Mr Linky! I can't wait to get started. :)

i discovered the wonderful world of reading challenges just this past year - and i'm excited to join this one for 2008! thanks, MizB!
I am looking forward to this reading Challenge now I just need to look at my TBR piles and pick 12 books, I better get to it before Jan 2008 LOL
Happy Reading
Lisa
I've signed up to this challenge and I had great fun picking my selection.
Now I really have to hustle to get my list together. Oh, I am so excited!!!
Peace
aaThis sounds like a great way to whittle down some of the books I've been meaning to get to! Thanks for organizing this!
Erin
Hi! Well I am in for this challenge, all i hope is that i'll manage to read all 12 or 24 books in the year;o) Thanks
Wonderful! I've posted my list on my blog...need to tweak a little, though. I'm already reading Great Expectations and I see the rules say I shouldn't start my list until January 1st. Oops. Thanks for hosting. You'll enjoy Blue Like Jazz...great book! B.
Sounds like a blast, I've posted my list. :D
Looks like loads of fun and a great way to challenge myself to read books that are not the norm for me.
Wow! I have needed this challenge! My lists are up on my blog in a post and later tonight I will add them to my sidebar. Happy Reading everyone!
*smiles*
Kim
I'm excited I'll have an excuse this year to make a dent in my stack of tbr books! I'm really looking forward to the challenge :)
Fantastic challenge - just the impetus I need to clear some of the older titles off Mount TBR!
Kell.
I'm in! This is my first-ever reading challenge and I'm excited about it. Thanks for putting this all together for us, MizB! :)
My list
Sounds like a fun challenge, which motivated me to go around the house looking for the books I've been meaning to read but haven't.
This sounds fun and something new for me. I've never decided this far ahead of time what to read, but figured with 12, I can work them in especially giving the fact of having 12 months to do it in, lol. Goodness knows I have plenty to get off of my TBR shelf! lol
I am new to blogging, but wanted to participate in this challenge (thanks Jenn(Mizbooks)). I've never planned this far ahead but it should be fun. I have my list ready and am off to my blog to enter them there.
Sorry if this is a double post, but it looks like my comment got eaten by the internet. I found out about this challenge just in time, and I'm really looking forward to it.
I'm so excited about this challenge. I just found out about it, so I don't have my list yet but I have simply tons of books around the house that I haven't read yet so I have plenty to pick from. I also have been meaning to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and all of the Chronicles of Narnia.
Yay I am in on this, going to put my list on my blog now:)
Looking forward to a year of reading. I just found this site tonight and immediately joined. I should have my list posted by Friday afternoon. Thanks for hosting. Happy New Year
This sounds like a challenge I can get into! :) Great idea.
I finally find a reason to read the books in my TBR list :D
I join the challenge!
I really need this, whether it will be fun or not I have to stop eyeballing new books and read the ones I have.
This will be a very tough challenge for me. I love to read but with my adult ADD I rarly seem to follow through with a complete book. This should really help to change that pattern.
I am new to blogging & challenges. Many of my Yahoo book group friends participated in this and other fun challenges last year, so I decided to join up for a few and see how it goes. I don't usually plan my reading because I am very much a mood reader. This challenge appealed to me because I can choose alternates, I get rid of books in my huge TBR & I don't have to read them in any particular order.
So I think I will do okay with it.
Good luck to all & Happy Reading!
I just signed up here and at the Yahoo group. I am totally new to Reading Challenges but I have such a huge TBR pile it's taking over the (VERY small) house, so this will be a help in moving along some of those books!!
I need a couple days to pick my books but will get on that ASAP.
Looking forward to it!
Quenby (hikaruthedragon)
Joining a little late but look forward to the challenge. Thanks.
Where do we post the address for the reviews on our blogs as we finish the books? Is there a special page??
Nan -- You can post the address of the link in the comments section, here at the challenge blog, if you want. Or, feel free to join the Yahoo group for the challenge, and post your links there! :-)
<>< MizB
Yay! I'm finally in for real! :-) Thanks for getting it all fixed up! Now I better get going. . .
Good Luck, Everyone!
Lezlie
My list of TBR books can be found on on chainreading.com. I have 102 books on the list so picking 12 shouldn't be too hard. Thanks for the challenge!
I was wondering if I could be added to the TBR participant blogroll? I signed up for the challenge using the old Mr. Linky in December. Here's my list. Thanks!
This is my first reading challenge so I am really looking forward to it! I found so many books at home that I had not got round to reading so this has made me very organised!!
Wonderful challenge. I now have no excuse not to read the books that have been sitting there. Some of them have been hanging around for years!
I've been in the group, but hadn't added my name on this Mr. Linky list...:)
Just love the push this gives me to read through my TBR piles!!
Deb
Hi Mizb,
I was looking at the blog roll and didn't see my blog listed, so I signed up with Mr. Linky again. (I don't know if that has anything to do with it.)
Thanks!
Teddy
Thought I'd signed up for this challenge but better late than never. Thanks for having me.
Signing up incredibly late too - it was on my very long list of bookish things to do!
I have figured out why Google wasn't letting me post a comment...I have to log in on the Japanese site before I can post here in English...ah, the wonders of being an Expatriate in Cyberspace!
My TBR Challenge list is here
(sorry if the link doesn't work,
I am not good with HTML...)

Cheers! And Happy reading!

i thought i would join, but decided to wait. i'm not going to do this one this year. bummer.
This is a FANTABULOUS idea! Thank you for helping me to quit putting off reading these books for another decade! I am looking forward to this year (and next year too!)
okay, so i decided to go for it! I'll post my list soon.
Ok. I've decided to make this my first -ever- online challenge...It's gonna be big, especially considering I should have already read 3 of my listed books.
Both lists should be posted at my blog by mid-week, at the latest.
Feel free to come check them out and leave your words of encouragement ;)
Good luck to all & happy reading!
HI MizB - I saw this challenge ages ago (like last November??) and made up the list on my blog, and thought i had linked back here. I just discovered tonight that I hadn't! SO I've just added myself (#250 I think) and linked back to my blog with my book list. I've already read three on it! I can't believe I didn't check before...anyway, it's a great book challenge and I am so pleased to be getting through my TBR pile! I'm already building a stack for next years! Thanks!
Hi, I'm a little late...I hope it's all right? Thanks!
i'm late but how cool!
i also linked the blog ring on my other blogs...looks like fun!
blessings!
I'm a bit behind, so i'll need to get a move on, but looking forward to it!
Unfortunately, I have to bow out of the TBR challenge! I've agreed to read too many ARCs... :-(
