Round 2 in 2008! (it's here!!!)

Back by popular demand...

IT'S A TBR CHALLENGE!

For this challenge you should....

** Pick 12 books - one for each month of 2008 - that you've been wanting to read (that have been on your "To Be Read" list) for 6 months or longer, but haven't gotten around to.

** OPTIONAL: Create a list of 12 "Alternates" (books you could substitute for your challenge books, given that a particular one doesn't grab you at the time)

** Then, starting January 1, 2008, read one of these books from your list each month, ending December 31, 2008. :o)

(for more information, please read the challenge FAQs)

By the end of the year you should've knocked 12 books off of your TBR list! (of course, if you're anything like me, you'll have added *at LEAST* 12 more to the ever-growing pile by then! LOL).

The good news is, though, that you'll be making some progress! ;o)

Are you up for the challenge?

You have 2 options:

  1. Sign your name to the MR. LINKY below, and make sure it links to the blog post that shows your list of 12 books (with, or without, 'alternates')

  2. Sign your name on the MR. LINKY below, without a link if you do not have a blog

EDITED TO ADD (Jan.24/08): The old Mr. Linky wasn't working any more (it was full?), so please sign the one below, if you haven't signed up for the challenge yet!

Thanks! And, happy reading!! =)

Looking forward to this reading challenge. I haven't ever planned pleasure reading for a whole year...should be a lot of fun!

Karen said...

As much of a planner as I am, I have never planned an entire year's reading schedule. This is fun! Just be patient with my blog please. I am new at this and very technologically challenged.

Is there still a 15 book alternate limit?

MizB said...

Laura & Karen -- you may not think it's so "fun" after you've fallen behind by several months! LOL. :-P

Becky -- sorry that you'll no longer be participating. I'm not sure how to delete links, but I'll make note of your 'status', and I'll see what I can do about the link, anyway...

3M -- I don't know if there's still a limit on Alternates... I'm waiting to get a (yahoo) group concensus (sp?) on that... will post it to the Blog post when I know for sure! ;o)

Yeah! Its here! I think I will really enjoy this challenge. I primarily read short stories & essays, but have resolved this next year to spend more time with a book which requires a longer...dare I say...commitment. There. I've done it. I've said the "C" word. No turning back now.....Mwa ha ha.
Happy reading everyone!

I've finally settled on my list and signed up with Mr. Linky. Thanks for hosting this challege (I want to start reading my TBR books NOW ;>)).

Consider me added with my list up on my blog and in the side bar too. Looking forward to it :)

Aileen said...

This is my first challenge. I don't have a blog (but thinking about starting one) -I usually write my reviews in a journal. Where do I post what my list will be?

MizB said...

Becky -- I got some help, so I deleted your link from the Mr.Linky as requested. ;o)

Melissa -- Very cool that you're joining me/us! Welcome aboard! :D

Aileen -- Feel free to join the TBR Challenge (Yahoo) Group, if you don't have a blog. If you'd rather not do that, that's okay, too -- I guess you could just do the challenge, and we'll trust you to complete it as you say... there aren't any prizes for 2008, so I don't really *need* to see your list.

Everyone Else -- so glad to have you all joining us!!! :D

Aileen -- Yes, you can post your list at the TBR Yahoo! group. In the FILES section there, you'll find a Folder called "2008 MEMBER Book Lists". Once you've gotten into that folder, click "Create a Text File", type your list, and save it! Voila! ;o)

Tami -- I'll delete your unneeded link soon! ;o)

Kris said...

I accidentally signed up twice. Oops - I think I'm numbers 80 and 81.

I think 2008 will be a much better year for me for the tbr challenge - I can't wait!

I'm more excited about putting this list together than about Xmas! For 2007 I've finished 6 and am likely to finish a 7th. The other 5 plus three alternates carry over to 2008, either as main selections or as alternates. My 2007 experience has been a very positive one of reading a number of books I had delayed reading. I can't wait 'til it's 2008.

Vickie said...

This will definitely be a helpful challenge. = ) I'll work on my list/s over the holiday week. My buddy SuziQ is very excited, so this one must be a humdinger.

Suey said...

I'm here again! I loved this last year and look forward to another year of reading those books that have been so patiently waiting their turn.

whodeynoble said...

This should be a lot of fun. I'm in the process of putting my lists together. Thanks.

Melanie said...

woohoo! have my list up now and am working on my alternates too.

smtwngrl said...

It was harder to choose my TBR books and alternates this year. I don't know if that's because I have more books to read or if it's because I know I probably won't make it through more than 12. If only I could read all 24 this year...

Trisha said...

I already posted my blog to the list, but this is the link to my actual list of books for the challenge. I'm so excited! I can't wait to get started.

Sounds like a fun challenge, which motivated me to go around the house looking for the books I've been meaning to read but haven't.

April said...

This sounds fun and something new for me. I've never decided this far ahead of time what to read, but figured with 12, I can work them in especially giving the fact of having 12 months to do it in, lol. Goodness knows I have plenty to get off of my TBR shelf! lol

Ladyslott said...

I am new to blogging, but wanted to participate in this challenge (thanks Jenn(Mizbooks)). I've never planned this far ahead but it should be fun. I have my list ready and am off to my blog to enter them there.

Sorry if this is a double post, but it looks like my comment got eaten by the internet. I found out about this challenge just in time, and I'm really looking forward to it.

I'm so excited about this challenge. I just found out about it, so I don't have my list yet but I have simply tons of books around the house that I haven't read yet so I have plenty to pick from. I also have been meaning to read the Lord of the Rings trilogy and all of the Chronicles of Narnia.

I join the challenge!

ICEDREAM said...

I really need this, whether it will be fun or not I have to stop eyeballing new books and read the ones I have.

Casey said...

This will be a very tough challenge for me. I love to read but with my adult ADD I rarly seem to follow through with a complete book. This should really help to change that pattern.

Lisa said...

I am new to blogging & challenges. Many of my Yahoo book group friends participated in this and other fun challenges last year, so I decided to join up for a few and see how it goes. I don't usually plan my reading because I am very much a mood reader. This challenge appealed to me because I can choose alternates, I get rid of books in my huge TBR & I don't have to read them in any particular order.
So I think I will do okay with it.
Good luck to all & Happy Reading!

GaijinMama said...

I just signed up here and at the Yahoo group. I am totally new to Reading Challenges but I have such a huge TBR pile it's taking over the (VERY small) house, so this will be a help in moving along some of those books!!
I need a couple days to pick my books but will get on that ASAP.

Looking forward to it!

Where do we post the address for the reviews on our blogs as we finish the books? Is there a special page??

Nan -- You can post the address of the link in the comments section, here at the challenge blog, if you want. Or, feel free to join the Yahoo group for the challenge, and post your links there! :-)

HI MizB - I saw this challenge ages ago (like last November??) and made up the list on my blog, and thought i had linked back here. I just discovered tonight that I hadn't! SO I've just added myself (#250 I think) and linked back to my blog with my book list. I've already read three on it! I can't believe I didn't check before...anyway, it's a great book challenge and I am so pleased to be getting through my TBR pile! I'm already building a stack for next years! Thanks!
